With food born illnesses on the rise these days, it is especially important to know how long does chicken need to cook to avoid making your family sick. Of course, the answer to that question depends a lot on what type of chicken you are cooking (boneless or boned); how big your chicken or chicken pieces are and what cooking method you are using. Taking all of these things into consideration, here are some basic cooking times to follow when preparing your favorite chicken recipe:
- Grill boned breast halves for at least 10-15 minutes per side for app. 8 ounces of meat
- Four ounces of boneless halves only need 6-8 minutes per side to cook thoroughly on a grill
- Baking a whole chicken takes between 1 ½ to 2 hours in a 350 degree oven, while cut pieces take about 45-60 minutes.
- Chicken tends to boil in about an hour, unless it is boneless, in which case it will get done in half the time.
