roastWhose mouth doesn’t water at the thought of eating tender, succulent roast for dinner? Cooking roast requires seasoning the meat before browning to get the best flavor. Whether you choose a cut of rump, bottom round, top round, chuck or brisket, browning the meat on all sides before roasting caramelizes the sugar in the meat, improving the flavor.

Knowing how long to cook roast depends on the cooking method. Roasting time is generally based on 30 minutes for every pound of meat in a 350-degree oven. The meat will be well cooked on the outside but rare inside. If you don’t care for the taste of rare meat, use the same cooking time; however, leave the meat in the oven for another 30 minutes after turning off the heat.

Whether you choose to cook a roast on the stovetop, bake it in the oven, or slow cook it in a crock pot, adding vegetables to the pot can give you a complete meal. Cooking roast slowly at a low temperature while basting the meat with its own juices from the bottom of the pan will give you a more tender, moist pot roast. Rest the meat on a cake rack placed on top on a roasting pan filled with vegetables. The vegetables will cook in the juices dripping from the meat. Allow the roast to stand for another 20 minutes after removing it from the oven before you carve the meat and serve.
