For some do-it-yourselfers, there is nothing worth buying that you can not make yourself. That includes their backyard grill. Some of the first grills were made using 55 gallon drums found at the local factory yard or farm. Today, some people are learning how to make grills much more inexpensively using this old-fashioned design. Here’s how:
- Get a hold of a clean 55 gallon drum and mark it off in quarters using masking tape
- Using a hacksaw, cut out one of the quarters for the grill lid
- Weld angle iron in a rectangular shape to the grill’s oil drum for support.
- To make a grilling rack, tack down a piece of metal mesh to the grill
- If you want to add legs to your grill, use two pieces of 1×2 steel
Learning how to make grills that work well and are very cheap really is just that easy.
