Of course, the answer to that question depends a lot on what type of chicken you are cooking (boneless or boned); how big your chicken or chicken pieces are and what cooking method you are using.  Taking all of these things into consideration, here are some basic cooking times to follow when preparing your favorite chicken recipe:

  • Grill boned breast halves for at least 10-15 minutes per side for app. 8 ounces of meat
  • Four ounces of boneless halves only need  6-8 minutes per side to cook thoroughly on a grill
  • Baking a whole chicken takes between 1 ½ to 2 hours in a 350 degree oven, while cut pieces take about 45-60 minutes.
  • Chicken tends to boil in about an hour, unless it is boneless, in which case it will get done in half the time.

For some do-it-yourselfers, there is nothing worth buying that you can not make yourself.  That includes their backyard grill.  Some of the first grills were made using 55 gallon drums found at the local factory yard or farm.  Today, some people are learning how to make grills much more inexpensively using this old-fashioned design.  Here’s how:

  • Get a hold of a clean 55 gallon drum and mark it off in quarters using masking tape
  • Using a hacksaw, cut out one of the quarters for the grill lid
  • Weld angle iron in a rectangular shape to the grill’s oil drum for support.
  • To make a grilling rack, tack down a piece of metal mesh to the grill
  • If you want to add legs to your grill, use two pieces of 1×2 steel

Learning how to make grills that work well and are very cheap really is just that easy.
