how_to_cook_chickenCooking chicken is a low fat meat choice to prepare for a meal. Skinless, boneless chicken breasts are easy to prepare whether you use dry or moist heat for cooking. The convenient thing about chicken is that you can cook it several different ways. When determining how long to cook chicken, it will depend on the cooking method you use. If you choose to roast, bake, deep-fry or grill chicken, you will be cooking the meat at a higher temperature for a shorter length of time. Cooking chicken breasts with moist heat by steaming, poaching or slow cooking involves cooking the meat at lower heat for a longer time.

The important thing to remember when cooking chicken is to make certain that the meat has cooked all the way through in order to kill harmful bacteria that can make you sick. The USDA recommends cooking chicken to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Breast meat will continue to cook for a few minutes more after removing it from the heat, increasing the internal temperature another several degrees.
